And We're Off

Kid and I are off to Moscow on Monday.

We're going for 10 days to visit my friend, the one who left all of her cats in my charge and temporarily moved there. We'll be staying at her house in a small town 70 km from Moscow. Small town means population of close to 70 thousand people. Just to compare, our ville has just under seven thousand...

I haven't been to Russia for 23 years and I have no idea what to expect. I'm not a citizen because in 1990 when we left for Israel, these two countries didn't have diplomatic relations. We were forced to "reject our Soviet citizenship" and we had to pay for it! My mind still burns and smokes when I try to understand it (just imagine Tom and Jerry and the steam pouring out of Tom's ears. That's it).

Anyway, I've been watching a bit of the Russian TV. The country has changed so much and in other aspects not at all. It'll be a very interesting anthropological experiment or an emotional rollercoaster for me. The Kid is a different story. First thing he asked was: Do they have french fries and cornflakes over there? They do? Well, it's OK then".

Our suitcases are pretty much packed. I wanted to do one of those "Polyvore on the floor" posts but I did't feel like laying my clothes out on the floor for the dog and cat to walk all over. I'll just say that the color scheme is black-white-neutral with pink accents. I'm taking 5 pairs of shoes for 10 days - two pairs of flats, pink heels (just in case), Zara beige slippers and sneakers in case it rains.

I don't think I'll be able to post anything from there. I don't have an Ipad and posting from Iphone seems impossible. Maybe I'll instagram something (I'm yeoldesocks if anybody's interested).

Lots of stuff to do before we leave. Organize enough food for the Husband, take Lulu to the vet for the second shot, take Kid to hairdresser's, finish packing, do the laundry, call cellphone company to cancel unlimited internet for the duration (I'll be using Wi-Fi over there). There must be some other chores that I don't remember at the moment. That's why I write things down old-fashioned way, in a weekly diary).

And there is still some work to be done. I'm translating a certain TV series about a mysterious Dome that covered a small town somewhere in America. Among other things.

See you in a couple of weeks.
